Here at Tilley’s Wines, we’ve long had great success with sparkling red wines. The first sparkling red wine we imported was Fox Creek’s Vixen which remains a year-long bestseller but it does come into it’s own at Christmas. It is made from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and we like to describe it as our Black Forest Gateau wine.
Samuel’s Gorge’s Comet Tail is another seriously sparkling red made from Shiraz. The complex and structured base wine is enhanced by traditional bottle fermentation, hand riddling and bottle ageing, before disgorging after 18 months on yeast lees. For the finale, it is finished with dosage liqueur; adding another layer of intrigue and complexity to this wine. This vivacious drop is very versatile. Indulge in a glass with your next dark chocolate dessert or do as we do and pair it with our slow roasted gammon with spiced orange glaze.
Quite different to the Vixen and Comet Tail is our lighter Italian sparkling red wine, 47 AD Marsecco, Frizzante Marzemino. We lord this up as an ultimate party wine, guaranteed to convert any non-believer.
