Maxwell, Lime Cave, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008

NEW STOCK AND NEW VINTAGE ARRIVING JANUARY!

The Maxwell Winery is located on the south facing slope of a solid limestone hill in the heart of the McLaren Vale. Next to the winery is a man-made cave, dug in 1916, tunnelled 40 metres into the hill. This is the Lime Cave.

Cabernet Sauvignon for this wine is sourced from vines planted in 1972 above the Lime Cave, on the crest of the estate vineyard. Identified as a Reynella Selection Cabernet vines, the first vines were brought into South Australia over 160 years ago. The estate vines, now into their 4th decade, continue to produce small parcels of remarkable fruit due to the minimal topsoil and solid limestone in which they grow.

Matured in French oak, the abundant mulberry, cassis and violet overtones are well integrated with spice oak. Long grained tannins provide balance and persistence. The elegant Cabernet Sauvignon is a reflection of the unique are of McLaren Vale in which it is grown.

    Hugh Hamilton, The Scallywag, 2015

    Out Of Stock
    £12.50 £9.50

As the Black Sheep of the family, Hugh Hamilton crafts a modern style chardonnay where the grapes do the talking rather than yesteryear’s manipulated ‘blousey’ wine style. The grapes are from Hugh’s vineyards from the Adelaide Hills which benefit from cool days and nights giving melon fruit flavours. There is subtle texture from a small proportion matured in aged French oak. A refreshing take on Chardonnay.

Go on to watch Hugh’s video on The Scallywag and his analogy how yesteryear’s over-oaked Chardonnay is the kind of girlfriend you won’t be introducing to your Mother!

    Suitable for vegans!

    Gilligan, Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre, 2013

    Out Of Stock
    £15.95 £10.95

Gilligan is one of the smallest wineries from which Tilley’s Wines import. We have known Leigh Gilligan for many years and now Leigh’s son Sami has joined the family winery as the winemaker.

Leigh and Sami have a passion for sustainable viticultural practices and traditional winemaking techniques. Estate grown fruit, open fermentation, basket pressing and oak maturation produces a superb blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre which has earned high praise since the first release in 2002, from wine critics and consumers throughout the world.

Medium purple in colour with a vibrant bouquet of black fruits, violets, long finish with silky tannins. Excellent structure displaying fine, chalky tannins and good acidity which will complement a wide range of foods.

The blend is dominated by Shiraz (80 %) with the remainder shared equally between Grenache and Mourvedre grapes.

A portion of this vintage was fermented on roussanne lees to give additional silkiness and texture to the palate.
