Addington Garden Cider ‘Wollaston Pressing 2020’£3.30
Made with windfall apples picked from our village of Wollaston, Northamptonshire (picked by Ivor Tilley and his two grandsons!)
In The Bottle: Peter makes his cider from the garden fruit of Little and Great Addington and the surrounding villages. This product is made in small batches and the contents will vary in nature (I add a very small amount of sugar to bottle-condition and get some fizz).
Our cider is made without adding sulphites, colourings, water, sweeteners, or anything else! It is made like you’d expect it to be, from 100% apple juice (technically commercially produced cider only has to b 36% fruit juice in it, the rest is, well we don’t know what!).
We do add Young’s Cider Yeast to ensure a healthy fermentation – there’s nothing worse than all of the physical effort of making the cider being ruined by some errant yeasts!
It is bottle conditioned so if you like your cider cloudy, pour the whole bottle into a glass, otherwise pour and leave the sediment behind. Please accept this cider for what it is, an unadulterated product made by hand with care and passion.
Peter Little, Hand crafter at the Addington Garden Cidery.
*Best consumed within two years of purchase. Made from 100% fruit juice with nothing added except a little yeast and touch of sugar.
**May contain pieces of apple.
***It is strong, please drink responsibly.
Henners Native Grace Rose 2018£13.95
The Native Grace Rosé is a blend of 75% Pinot Meunier and 25% Pinot Noir with grapes chosen from selected vineyard blocks. Grapes were hand-harvested and Pinot Meurnier grapes were loaded into the press and left to macerate overnight before being whole bunch pressed to obtain a beautiful, delicate, pink colour. The grapes were cool fermented in stainless steel, before undergoing malolactic fermentation.
Deliciously fruity Pinot Meunier provides a vibrant strawberry and cream backbone to the Native Grace Rose. Summer berry flavours take centre stage with juicy raspberry, cherry and redcurrant notes delivering a dry, zippy finish.
Served chilled on a warm summer’s day or perfect with a fruity dessert such as Eton Mess.
Old Git Gin NV£24.95
The Old Git returns! And this time he claims to know a thing or two about gin. Yes, he’ll drone on about how the nation’s favourite spirit ‘isn’t made like it used to be’, in fact for this Old Git nothing ever is… Well, this time he’s wrong, because here’s a gin that actually is! Old Git Gin is a gin made just as it should be. Traditionally double distilled in two-hundred litre copper alembic stills, with a handful of heady botanicals, for a racy gin packed with charm, that will delight even the stiffest of gin bores.
No corners were cut when it comes to the gin inside the bottle. Distilled by one of the the UK’s finest Master Distillers, using only the highest quality ingredients and diligent distillation methods. A small batch gin, made from scratch using English sugarbeet. Double distilled with its botanicals in 200l copper alembics for extra flavour and a exceptionally smooth finish.
Juniper led and refreshingly dry. Full of citrus notes, and summer berry richness, with a smooth cardamom finish.
Best served over ice as one part Old Git Gin to three parts good tonic. Garnish with a wedge of fresh orange or pink grapefruit.
Henners Brut 2014£28.50
Henners Brut is produced solely from grapes grown on Henners outstanding estate, in Herstmonceux East Sussex. They found the unique combination of warm well drained soils, southerly aspect slope coupled with low altitude. The result is perhaps the finest vineyard microclimate in the country. Henners take a non-interventionist approach in the winery, made possible by the quality of the fruit. Vine clones and varieties are fermented separately to allow a broad palette of wines for final blending. Approximately 85% of the wine goes through malolactic fermentation. A proportion (10%) is fermented in aged oak barrels to add subtle character and layers to the wine.
Sourdough aromas combine with crunchy green apple fruit to provide a wonderfully welcoming nose. The palate is fine with a lively and persistent mousse. Green apple and pear fruit characters mix with a toasted brioche leesy flavour helping to provide a complex and moreish palate. Balanced acidity and a long finish make this a very classy sparkling wine.
Perfect aperitif or celebration wine.
Rude Mechanicals Vineyard Gin NV£32.00
If Rude Mechanicals was going to bother making a gin, they knew they were going to have do it properly – from scratch and using wine from their vineyards. It’s that combination of their wine and Dr John Walters’ original scratch spirit that forms the unique base for the Rude Mechanicals gin. The intensity of the flavours and aromas in Vineyard Gin come from the second distillation, where the hand-selected botanicals are distilled into the gin rather than using more conventional compounding methods. Only the hearts of both distillations are used in order to achieve Vineyard Gin’s ludicrously smooth finish.
A botanical compôte of juniper, mandarin flesh, cardamom, peel of clementine, lemon zest & wine. This is a gin that tastes like a gin… just a really good one.
Sipped from a heavy tumbler with a single cube of ice. Alternatively, enjoy a generous measure with your favourite tonic. Serve over plenty of ice with a clutch of gently squeezed black grapes and a fresh basil leaf.
