Like most villains, this is a very appealing wine. It has a deep rich plum colour. The aroma is berry fruits with warm caramel and spice. The palate is layered with an integrated combination of silky tannins, exceptional fruit and spicy oak. This wine is full of intrigue. It fills the palate and has persistence. Invite a few villains around to dinner and let "The Villain" out of the bottle.
Detailed Tasting Notes
Cabernet is the great red grape of the world. It flourishes in most areas and is considered the most versatile and recognisable red grape variety. It has small dark berries, ripens late and produces wines of intense colour and firm tannin structure. In McLaren Vale the predominant flavour is blackcurrant with a slight herb character. In some districts, blending with another red variety such as Shiraz or Merlot improves its drinkability in the early years. This is an option in McLaren Vale but by no means a necessity. Cabernet from this area is very supple and textured in its youth.
