Third generation vigneron, Tim Knappstein has stood tall among Australia’s best winemakers for the past 40 years. Since selling his Clare winery in 1995 - and leaving his surname attached to it as part of the sale conditions - Tim’s identity has been masked behind several different brands and labels, though his output as a winemaker has remained both prolific and prodigious.

In 1996 Tim returned with Riposte, which by definition means ‘comeback, reply, retort.’  It is also a fencing term for a quick counter stroke. Using the fencing inferences, the wines are named after swords.

For Tim, Riposte sets the record straight: he is producing exactly the wines that he feels passionate about, exceptional wines cool climate wines from the Adelaide Hills, at a standard of excellence the wine industry expects to be associated with his name.
